WHAT IS A LIFTING JACK?

A lifting Jack is a mechanical device that is typically used to, either apply great force to an object, or to lift heavy loads. They are commonly used to elevate heavy equipment such as cars, structures or palette loads, which is usually done so that something can be placed underneath the object - either to lift it further off of the ground by means of a forklift or crane, or to conduct work or repairs from underneath the object.

There are many different types of lifting jack available including mechanical jacks that employ a screw thread, hydraulic jacks that use hydraulic power, and portable jacks that are powered by a hydraulic system and can be easily moved. Regardless of the type of jack a person chooses to use, a lifting jack is an essential tools for anyone working with heavy equipment, providing the ability to lift and hold heavy loads during maintenance and repairs.

HOW DO LIFTING JACKS WORK?

Lifting jacks typically work in one of two ways, either by using hydraulics or by using a screw jack. Both types of jack take a comparatively small amount of force and multiply it to lift a heavy object.

A hydraulic powered jack transmits the user applied force to a larger contained space filled with fluid, which multiplies the applied force and enables the lifting of heavy loads. A screw powered jack uses the much simpler method of mechanical levers to lift objects. When the screw - which is typically attached to a long lever or arm - is rotated, it moves through a nut, causing the load-bearing platform to move up or down, depending on the direction of rotation. The basic principle behind its operation is the translation of rotational motion into linear motion.
