WHAT IS A RATCHET LOAD BINDER?

A Ratchet Load Binder is a commonly used tool in the securement of cargo during transportation. It’s typically employed in the trucking, shipping, and logistics industries to tighten and secure loads on flatbed trailers, trucks, and other types of vehicles.

The primary purpose of a ratchet binder is to tension chains or straps, holding the cargo in place, preventing it from shifting or falling during transit.

Also referred to as Chain Binders, they are lightweight and easy to use. The simple manual operation of the level extends or retracts the treaded spindles ideal for tightening and straining lashing chains. Clevis ends are for use with existing fastening devices or you can select parallel hooks to attach directly to lashing chains when securing loads.

HOW DO LOAD BINDERS WORK?

Ratchet Chain Binders have two hooks or attachment points -one at either end. These hooks are used to connect the binder to the anchor points on the cargo and the trailer/truck. The load binder features a ratcheting mechanism that allows the user to incrementally tighten the chain or strap, applying tension to the cargo. The ratchet binder has a handle that can be cranked, providing a mechanical advantage, making it easier to apply significant tension to effectively secure a load. Once the desired tension is achieved, the ratchet binder typically has a locking mechanism that keeps the binder in place and prevents it from releasing tension.

WHAT ELSE SHOULD I CONSIDER?

When using a Ratchet Load Binder it is important to correct follow safety guidelines to ensure that the cargo is properly restrained and transportation is conducted safely. Additionally, users should be aware of working load limits of the load and chain binder, and ensure, that under no circumstances, is this WLL exceeded during transportation.
