Ratchet Lashings or otherwise known as Ratchet Straps provide a lightweight and ergonomic solution to light and medium load restraint in all types of vehicles such as vans, cars, lorries and trucks. With capacities usually up to 5000kg (depending on the width and rating of the webbing assembly), Lashing Straps provide a 'tie-down' many of us use every single day instead of bungee cords or loose pieces of string.

How do they work?

In the most simplistic way, Ratchet Straps have two separate parts and work by securing both of the claw hooks (attachment grabs) to an anchor point (usually an eye bolt or similar point of attachment). The user then connects the loose end of plain webbing to the other part of the assembly by threading the plain end into the ratchet and pulling through until no slack is left, at this point the user will begin cranking the handle which tensions the assembly and exerts a force upon the load, keeping it still and in place.

Where can I use them?

Ratchet straps can be used in pretty much any application under 5000kg, however, it is recommended that they are not used on loads with sharp edges unless these edges are sufficiently protected using edge protectors or similar devices. Common applications include cars, vans, lorries, boats, trucks and aircraft.

What can I secure my straps to?

This is always a question on ones mind when securing a load for transport, you want to ensure that the attachment point or lashing point is safe and secure, you should make sure that the point of attachment whether that be an eyebolt, swivel ring etc. is suitably rated to accommodate the pressure applied by the Ratchet Strap and within easy reach to hook and un-hook said lashing assembly.

I need custom made Ratchet Straps, what do I do?

Luckily, you're not too far away from a solution when shopping with LES. Some applications require off-standard or bespoke made Ratchet Straps in terms of length, width and even end fittings. We can design and manufacture completely bespoke assemblies to suit your custom requirements.
